Medical education-specific research grants

1. Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada

Medical Education Grant 
Supports quality research in Canada that will advance the field of postgraduate medical education or continuing professional development.


Royal College/Associated Medical Services CanMEDS Research Grant 
Supports research and/or the implementation of projects that advance competency-based training and specialty medical education (as realized through the intrinsic CanMEDS Roles) to realize social accountability in the training, assessment for specialists and continuing professional development of specialists.


The Dr. Karen Mann Catalyst Grant in Medical Education Research 
Intended for Royal College Resident Affiliates and early career clinician educators to encourage entry into medical education research through mentorship.


Royal College Strategic Initiative Grant
Supports high-quality medical education and health systems-focused research and scholarship to advance the fields of residency education, continuing professional development and other health system-related areas of focus in Canada (e.g., health workforce planning).


2. Canadian Association for Medical Education (CAME) Grants

Learner Health Professions Education Grant
Supports support new and innovative scholarly projects in Medical Education (Health Professions Education) for learners enrolled in a clinical health profession program in a Canadian university.


Early Career Health Professions Education Grant 
Supports support new and innovative scholarly projects in Medical Education (Health Professions Education) for faculty members in the first seven years of their initial faculty appointment in a Canadian health sciences faculty (PhD/Masters) (or equivalent).


Faculty Health Professions Education Grant 
Supports support new and innovative scholarly projects in Medical Education (Health Professions Education) for faculty members who are beyond the first seven years of their initial faculty appointment in a Canadian health sciences faculty (or equivalent). Faculty includes MD, PhD/Masters or other healthcare professionals.


CAME Wooster Family Grant in Medical Education 
Supports new and innovative scholarly projects in Medical Education (Health Professions Education) for clinical faculty members in the first seven years of their initial faculty appointment in a Canadian health sciences faculty (or equivalent).


3. The International Association for Health Professions Education (AMEE) Grants

AMEE Research Grant 
Supports educational research projects, with the aim of promoting scholarship in healthcare professions education.


AMEE Faculty Development Research Grant
Purpose is for helping and promoting research within the Faculty Development subject area.


4. College of Family Physicians of Canada Grants

The Scholarly Work in Medicine Education Grant
Supports scholarly projects in medical education in Family Medicine in Canada.


5. Medical Council of Canada

Research in Clinical Assessment Grant 
Intended to support and provide a principal investigator with the financial resources required to further complete their research while promoting the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) vision of ensuring that physicians have the competencies to support safe, accessible health care in Canada.


6. National Board of Examiners (NBME) Grants

Stemmler Grant
Supports the research and development of innovative assessment approaches with the potential to advance assessment in medical education.
