Tenure and promotion application support for
Indigenous Faculty Members
The Office of the Vice-President Indigenous (OVPI) offers a support program specifically for Indigenous Scholars who are preparing their tenure and/or promotion applications.
Our Indigenous Faculty Success Coordinator, Naithan Lagace, is available to assist Indigenous Scholars with:

Creating a timeline for the development of a tenure/promotion package. From initial development to the final stages, we can help create a framework for effective package development.

Identifying and planning for acquiring content for packages, including letters of recommendation from students, community service partners, etc.

Highlighting and articulating experiences within teaching, research, and community service dossiers sections of packages.

GENERAL PROMOTION INFORMATION
BE PREPARED is the general rule for promotions.
Read the Criteria for Promotions provided by the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, it provides a thorough overview of expectations and helpful information on assembling an application.
The following DFM deadlines allow us to help you through the process while also meeting deadlines the Office of Academic Affairs expects of our department.
Dec 1st - send CV to dfmfaculty@umanitoba.ca for review
January - all potential applicants contacted by DFM with full application package requirements
April 1 - Assistant Professor, Associate Professor applicants: External Assessor Demographics Deadline
March 30th - Previous Year's applicants receive confirmation on promotion completion
July 15 - DEADLINE for ALL APPLICANTS TO SUBMIT FULL APPLICATION PACKAGE
Sept to Nov - University level and Department level Promotions Committee meetings
Don't delay, start assembling the following:
Lecturers to Assistant Professor, Instructor I to Instructor II, Instructor II to Senior Instructor
Assemble these items:
- CV: current, reflecting your recent activities in teaching, administrative service, and research/scholarship.
- Dossiers on your 3 academic areas:
- teaching
- research/scholarship (including quality improvement projects, care mapping, conference presentations, etc.)
- service/administration to the University and the community.
- Evaluations of your teaching from learners

Assistant Professor to Associate Professor, Associate Professors to Professor
Assemble these items:
- CV: current, reflecting your recent activities in teaching, administrative service, and research/scholarship.
- Dossiers on your 3 academic areas:
- teaching
- research/scholarship (including quality improvement projects, care mapping, conference presentations, etc.)
- service/administration to the University and the community.
- Evaluations of your teaching from learners
- Three external reviewers and two additional "spare" reviewers:
- Must be from outside the U of M
- Must have an academic appointment at the rank you're applying for (or higher)
